North Korea on Friday 13 October 2023 denied that its weapons were use by Hamas in attacks on Israel. Pyongyang said the claims made in some media reports were Washington’s attempt to shift blame for the conflict onto a third country.
Radio Free Asia reported this week citing military experts that Hamas militants may have used North Korean weapons. The media also said footage of Palestinian fighters showed what appeared to be a rocket launcher thought to be from North Korea.
The US government’s Voice of America also quoted an intelligence expert as saying some of the weapons used by Hamas likely came from North Korea.
“This is simply an attempt to shift the blame for the Middle East crisis caused by wrong hegemonic policies to a third country and thus avoid international criticism that focuses on the evil empire,” he said.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Thursday said he could not confirm reports about the source of the rockets used by Hamas.
North Korean state media earlier this week blamed Israel for causing the bloodshed in Gaza.
North Korea routinely blames the United States for pushing the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war.
The Israeli conflict has emerged as another “major strategic burden” for Washington besides the Ukraine crisis, KCNA said, and shows the limitations of the US strategy of hegemony and its goal of becoming the sole global superpower.
The latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict began at the weekend with a surprise attack by Hamas, which was the deadliest attack by Palestinian militants in Israel’s history.
